Winkie is still being built, so some answers will get more specific as we test. Founding families hear it first.

What is Winkie, exactly?

A tiny camera your little one wears on their clothes. On a schedule you set, it catches a few seconds of their day at a time, so you can see how the day went, right from their height.

What ages is it for?

We’re designing Winkie for toddlers and preschoolers: old enough to be on the move, too young to tell you much about their day.

How does it catch moments?

You choose how often (every 15, 30 or 60 minutes) and during which hours. Each time, Winkie films a few seconds and its light glows while it does. Moments show up in the app through the day, and at bedtime you can watch them as one little reel.

Can I watch live?

No, and that’s on purpose. Winkie is for the little moments, not for monitoring, so it never live-streams.

Will Winkie have sound?

That’s up to founding families. We’re asking whether you’d want to hear your little one in their moments, or keep it video only. If Winkie ever records sound, it will only be with your caregiver’s OK, because recording people’s conversations without their consent isn’t okay, and in many states it isn’t legal.

Who can see the moments? What gets saved?

Only you and the people you invite, like a co-parent or grandparent, and everything is encrypted. Keep the moments you love; the rest clear away on their own.

What’s the built-in finder?

Like the little trackers people put on their keys, Winkie can show up on a map using phones nearby, so a Winkie left at the park is easy to find. We’re building it with privacy safeguards so it can’t be used to track anyone without permission.

How do moments get to my phone?

Winkie sends them over Wi-Fi, and we’re testing a low-cost cellular option for days out and about. Founding families will help us decide.

Can my child wear it at daycare or school?

Every daycare and school has its own rules about cameras, so always ask first. We’re designing Winkie first for time with nannies, sitters, family and outings.

Is there a monthly plan?

We’re still deciding. If there is one, it would cover storage for your moments and the app, and founding families will see pricing before the presale opens.

How long does the battery last?

We’re designing for a full day of moments, then an overnight charge in the dock. Because Winkie only wakes up to film, the battery goes a long way. We’ll share tested numbers once the prototype is done.

Is it safe for little kids?

Winkie is being designed with rounded edges, a secure clip and a sealed-in battery. Before it ships, it will be tested against the US safety standards that apply to it, including FCC certification.

When will Winkie ship?

We’ll share a delivery estimate when the presale opens, once the prototype has been tested with real families. Founding families hear first.

Does joining the list cost anything?

No. Joining is free and doesn’t commit you to buy anything. We’ll email you when the presale opens, plus a few updates along the way.
